Pre-Med Scholars (First-Year Program)

Pre-Med Scholars

The Pre-Med Scholars program supports Wellesley's inclusive excellence initiative, preparing students for careers in medicine by offering connections, information and opportunities during the crucial first year of college. The goal of the cohort program is to support students from low-income and first generation backgrounds in successfully preparing for and entering medical careers.

Benefits for students:

  • Supportive cohort of like-minded peers interested in health professions

  • Mentorship and advising from faculty, staff and peers

  • Connection with clinical practitioners

  • Access and early exposure to on and off-campus opportunities

  • Participation in Harvard Medical School's hands-on Medscience Program

  • Exclusive workshops and small group sessions

Why First-Years?

  • Struggles with academics and the hidden curriculum present greater obstacles for students who don't have access to mentorship in the critical first stages of college.

  • Research shows that some students too often exit the medical school pipeline in their first year of college.
